Born on 14th March 1956 in Wiener
Neustadt, approx. 50 km south of the Austrian Capital Vienna,
I was already interested in Astronomy and Space flight from
childhood. After graduation from High school and completing
Military Collage in Wiener Neustadt, I changed my career and
became a commercial pilot with Austrian Airlines, our national
carrier.
Alongside my main profession, I am studying Astronomy at Vienna
University. I celebrated my Eclipse flight debut by flying through
the "Moon shadow" over Finland on 22nd July 1990 with a Fokker
50 at an altitude of 25,000 ft with approximately 40 "Eclipse
friends".
During my trip to the great Eclipse of 11th July 1991 in Mexico
I got to know my future wife, Carmen Beatriz from Guadalajara.
We have been married since 1993. Our son Richard Max was born
in 1995, our daughter Julia del Carmen in 1998. Our family therefore
experienced the European Eclipse of 11th Aug. 1999 "complete".
Our first Astronomy Travel flight in June 2001 led us to the
first Eclipse of the third Millennium. We flew to Lusaka, Zambia
with an Austrian Airlines Airbus A340-300 and experienced an
unforgettable Solar Eclipse. The trip is documented under Zambia
